Saint Lucia govt delivers laptop devices to students of different Secondary schools

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire and Kenson Casimir- Education Minister, handed over the new laptop to the students.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The government of Saint Lucia has started a campaign to deliver laptop devices to different schools across the nation. This time, the distribution has taken place at Soufriere and Choiseul Comprehensive Secondary Schools.

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire and Kenson Casimir- Education Minister, handed over the new laptop to the students.

Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre, Ernest Hilaire and Kenson Casimir joined the Minister of Education on his tour of schools and handed over new laptop devices.

The Island wide distribution started last week and is set to continue as over 5000 students await their new devices. The distribution of devices followed a similar activity held at the Soufriere and Choiseul Comprehensive Secondary Schools one day before and involved the participation of Parliamentary Secretary Sen. Pauline Antoine-Prospere and M.P. for Soufriere Emma Hippolyte, as well as other senior management of the Ministry of Education.

Further, Ernest Hilaire took to social media and shared the update about the handover ceremony. He stated that Minister for Education and he himself, as Parliamentary Representative for Castries South, presented Form 1 students of the Ciceron Secondary School with their laptops.

He added, “Our government has kept its pledge of one laptop per child. Education is a key part of development both individually and as a nation.”

In addition to the laptop program, the government is also providing cable and internet to homes for $20 a month, paying facilities fees for students and a $500 bursary to all Form 1 students.

Over 650 students in Castries South benefitted from the Back to School Supplies Programme. Last month, the top ten performers in the CPEA from Castries South were recognised and celebrated. They promised to put people first, and we are keeping that promise.

On the same day, the Member of Parliament for Castries East, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, made a personal contribution of a Smart T.V. and school stationery to the Bishop Charles Gachet R.C. School and the Bocage Combined School as we seek to integrate modern technology into learning environments.
