Saint Lucia gears up for National U-15 cricket team with two practice matches

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia continued preparation of the National Under 15 Cricket Team with the two Trial/ Practice matches over the past weekend (November 19 & 20, 2022) at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

The teams were captained by the Windward Islands Under 15 players Theo Edward and Johnathan Daniel. On Saturday, November 19, in a match reduced to 33 overs a side due to a late start, Daniel’s team batting first made 221 for the loss of 11 wickets, with Royston Fannis making 49, Tyler Venner 27, Christian Peter 23, Jaheem Simeon 21 and Donte Fontinelle 15.

Bowling for Edward’s team, Aaron St Clair 3 for 22 in 4 overs, Cody Fontinelle 2 for 13 in 4 overs, Clint Dixon 2 for 15 in 3 overs and one wicket each to Zachary Gokool, Kaden Francis, Aiden Scholar and captain Theo Edward.

In reply, Edward’s team, led by a near century from Aaron St Clair and a half-century from Cody Fontinelle, made 224 for 5 in 31 overs.

Aaron St Clair led the batting with 93 inclusive of 11 fours and six sixes, Cody Fontinelle was 68 not out with seven fours and five sixes and Theo Edward chipped in with 11.

The wicket takers for Daniel’s team were Tyler Venner, Jn Claude Emmanuel, Jeanelle Williams and Denise Jn Paul, with one wicket each.

On Sunday, November 20, Daniel’s team batting first, led by a wonderful century from Tyler Venner made 289 for the loss of 13 wickets in their allocated 50 overs.

Tyler Venner batting with absolute command, top scored with 132, which included 25 fours and a solitary six, Royston Fannis 23, Denise Jn Paul 20 not out, Johnathan Daniel and Kaylan Neptune with 16 each, Linzie James 12 and Christian Peter 10.

The wicket takers for Edward’s team were skipper Theo Edward with 4 for 27 in 7 overs, Aaron St Clair4 for 49 in 8 overs, Bjorn Fanis 2 for 24 in 6 overs, Kareem Francis 2 for 30 in 6 overs and one wicket to Clint Dixon.

In reply, Edward’s team finished their inning on 175 for the loss of 12 wickets, with Theo Edward and Neil Poyotte making 23 each, Cody Fontinelle 15, Zanaki Louis 14 not out and Clint Dixon 12.

The wicket takers for Daniel’s team were Shealawn Daniel with 3 for 27 in 4 overs, Linzie James 2 for 14 in 4 overs, Leon Alexander with 2 for 22 in 7 overs and one wicket each to Tyler Venner, Jeanelle Williams and Jaheem Simeon.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports preparation program for the National Under 15 Cricket Team continues on the weekend of November 26 and 27 with two more Trial/ Practice matches at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
