Ernest Hilaire- Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister of Saint Lucia, extended greetings to Johnson Charles for scoring his first T20I century and the fastest in the history of West Indies cricket

Castries, Saint Lucia: Ernest Hilaire- Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister of Saint Lucia, extended greetings to Johnson Charles for scoring his first T20I century and the fastest in the history of West Indies cricket. He hailed Charles and expressed pleasure.

While taking to Facebook, Ernest Hilaire noted, “Congratulations to Johnson Charles for scoring his first T20I century and fastest in the history of West Indies cricket…well done, Jono. 118.”

Johnson Charles has become the 4th West Indies player to score a ton in the shortest format of the game. This is the fastest T20I century by a West Indies player too.

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre also extended greetings to Johnson Charles on his auspicious day and asserted Congratulations, Johnson Charles, on your first stunning 100 runs in T20I cricket, the fastest in West Indies T20I history. 118 runs.

“You have made us proud and continue to inspire young sportsmen and women. What a lovely day for cricket and the West Indies, “said the prime minister.

The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association extended heart felt congratulations to Johnson Charles on his sensational record breaking innings of 118 runs in the second T20 match against South Africa over the week end.

His scintillating inning came off just 46 balls which included the record for the fastest century by a West Indian in international T20 cricket (39 balls) and the second quickest T20 international inning ever.

This tremendous effort is befitting of the two time world cup winning Saint Lucian who has been in sublime form over the past two years in particular, dominating hapless bowlers all over the world. This performance will no doubt inspire fellow Saint Lucian and West Indians to continue striving for excellence in the sport of cricket which we love so dearly. The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association wishes Johnson Charles continued success in his illustrious career.

South Africa defeated West Indies in a historic, record-breaking T20I thriller, in the penultimate game of the West Indies’ tour of the Proteas.

Here are all the records that were broken in this single tie at the Centurion:

  • South Africa completed the T20 winning chase record with 259-4.
  • South Africa and West Indies collectively struck 35 sixes, the most maximums hit in a T20I fixture.
  • West Indian’s Johnson Charles bludgeoned a 39-ball century, besting the fastest T20I century by a West Indian.
