Saint Lucia: Edward Strikers defeats Melius Challengers in domestic cricket match

The 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament sponsored by District Representative; Kenson Casimir continued on Sunday, February 12, with a 50 over a side game between MELIUS CHALLENGERS and EDWARD BLASTERS at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

MELIUS CHALLENGERS batting first, was dismissed for 244 in 47.2 overs with Amari Venner top scoring with a fluent knock of 73 with 7 fours and 3 sixes, Royce Paul 33, Dillan John 31, Sanjay Francis 28, Bolton Sayers 19 and captain Khan Elcock 17.

The wicket takers for EDWARD STRIKERS were; Rene Carlson Jones with 4 for 40 in 8.2 overs, Keon Gaston 3 for 23 in 6 overs, standing captain Kymani Sexius 2 for 64 in 10 overs and 1 wicket to Stuart Calderon.

In reply, a commanding century from Stephen Naitram secured a comfortable victory for EDWARD BLASTERS. THE BLASTERS finished on 245 for 5 in 34.3 overs, with Stephen Naitram making brilliant 124 inclusive of 11 fours and 9 sixes in 89 balls at a strike rate of 139.33.

Other useful scores came from Joshua Cepal with 40 not out, Captain Kymani Sexius 14 and 11 each to Shawnil Edward and Jeandell Cyril.

The wicket takers for MELIUS CHALLENGERS were; Amari Venner with 2 for 38 in 5 overs and 1 wicket each to Royce Paul, Keygan Arnold and Sky Lafeuille.

The Man Of The Match Award sponsored by Ricky Mc Doom of Mc Doom Enterprises went to STEPHEN NAITRAM for his match winning score of 124 and also picking up 4 catches behind the stumps.

The tournament continues on Tuesday, February 14 with a 25 over a side developmental match among male players 15 years and under together with female under 19 players from 5:30pm at the Gros Islet Playing Field in Saint Lucia. 

Fifth (50) overs a side match between EDWARD BLASTERS and MELIUS CHALLENGERS.

The Saturday Morning Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Development Program continued with the 2023 programming on February 11 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia. 

The activities took the following format:

* Prayers/ Welcome/ Introductions etc.

* Warm-up activities.

* Catching/ Fielding drills and exercises.

* Batting drills.

* Nets.

The main coaches who conducted the training session were: Malika Edward and Mateo Boulogne.
