Saint Lucia: Edward Blasters defeats Melius Challengers in eliminator match of domestic cricket

Edward Blasters secured the victory against the Melius Challengers in the eliminator #1 match of the 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament of Saint Lucia on Thursday, February 6, 2023.

The 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament, sponsored by District Representative Kenson Casimir continued with the 20/20 format on Thursday, February 16, with Eliminator #1 between 3rd place team EDWARD BLASTERS and 4th place team MELIUS CHALLENGERS.

MELIUS CHALLENGERS invited to take first knock made 167 all out in their allotment of 20 overs, with Keygan Arnold top scoring with 56 which included 4 fours and 5 sixes, standing captain Khan Elcock 44 and Sanjay Francis 12 in Saint Lucia. 

The wicket takers for EDWARD BLASTERS were; Shawnil Edward with 2 for 16 in 2 overs, Stavone Gabriel 2 for 25 in 3 overs, Jeandell 2 for 42 in 4 overs and 1 wicket to Darvin Forde.

In reply, EDWARD BLASTERS, led by a stunning century from the in form, STEPHEN NAITRAM easily got to their target, finishing on 171 for 2 in 15 overs.

STEPHEN NAITRAM made a brilliant 108 not out inclusive of 6 fours and 12 sixes in 44 balls at a strike rate of 245.45. Other useful scores came from Caleb Thomas with 31 and Keon Gaston 24.

The wicket takers for MELIUS CHALLENGERS were; Royce Paul and Keygan Arnold with 1 wicket each. The Man of the Match Award went to STEPHEN NAITRAM for a magnificent unbeaten century (108) to lead EDWARD BLASTERS to victory in Saint Lucia. 

The tournament continues on February 21 with GERSON STRIKERS coming up against EDWARD BLASTERS in ELIMINATOR #2.

The winner will meet GOODMAN WARRIORS in the Grand Finals of the 2023 Gros Islet Domestic District Representative 20/20 Cricket Tournament scheduled for March 1, 2023 from 6:00 pm at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
