Saint Lucia: Department for Youth ‘Walk for Peace’ set for April 30th

The Department for Youth in the Ministry of Development and Sports of Saint Lucia will take to the highways and byways on Sunday 30th April 2023 from 6.00 a.m. in the form of a walk dubbed “Walk for Peace”.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Department for Youth in the Ministry of Development and Sports of Saint Lucia will take to the highways and byways on Sunday 30th April 2023 from 6.00 a.m. in the form of a walk dubbed “Walk for Peace”.

The event will start from Mega J Car Park in Choc to the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. With the spate of violence currently being experienced, the Youth Department with other stakeholders found it necessary to add their voice and champion the call for PEACE on the Island.

According to Youth Director – Rohan Lubon – “The event coincides with the final day of Youth Month in Saint Lucia, but the awareness for International Year of the Youth continues with the theme “Empowering our Youth for Peace, Unity, and a Safe Society”.

The five-hour event is in collaboration with the National Youth Council. The following District Youth and Sports Councils have been charged to mobilize the youth in their respective zones.

Gros Islet North and South / Babonneau / Castries North / Central Castries and East Castries. Sporting organizations, early morning walkers, and joggers can join in the showcase for Peace.

The participants will walk up until the Vigie Round About – then turn left into La Clery / La Clery Field / Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima Church, La Clery / down Darling Road / Jeremie Street / Waterfront and finish at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

In culminating Youth Month (April) and celebrating Year of the Youth inkeeping with the theme: Empowering our youth for peace, unity and a safer society : WALK FOR PEACE

Route:

  • Massy Mega>LA Clery>Darling Road>Jereme Street>Sir John Compton Highway> Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex
  • Wear a touch of orange or your group/sports uniform. All District Youth and Sports Councils in the North are welcome.

At the end of the walk, participants will be engaged in a series of aerobic exercises and sporting activities including Basketball, Netball, and Volleyball. The events will go up until 11.00 a.m.
