Saint Lucia commences North Divisional Police Headquarters construction

Phillip J. Pierre, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security in Massade, Gros-Islet announced the commencement of the construction of the Northern Divisional Police Headquarters on October 23, 2023.

Saint Lucia:  Phillip J. Pierre, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security announced the commencement of the construction of the Northern Divisional Police Headquarters in Massade, Gros-Islet on October 23, 2023.

“I was overwhelmed to turn the sod for the construction of the Northern Divisional Police Headquarters.” quoted PM.

He added this project was paused by the time of the former administration that is May 2017 however, was disclosed. This again was intervened in 2022 by the Prime Minister.

Moreover, he said that the day he first went to Gros Islet Police Station, realized that the decision which he had made to construct a new facility was so required.

The construction of Northern Divisional Police Headquarters will be funded by BOLT (Build-Own-Lease-Transfer) with NIRPO( National Insurance Property Development and management company limited), NIC ( National Insurance Corporation) including the Government of Saint Lucia.

The projected term for the completion of the project is 18 months. This will also enhance the art facilities for the officer’s training. This will also include other administrative departments such as the Traffic Department, crime scene investigations etc.

The maintenance agreement is also made in its concern as a part of the deal. This will ensure the taxpayer’s investment on the region is protected.

Noticeably, the budget for this respective project was $35,925,822 and the construction will utilize the area of 30,000 sq.ft. on the 2.6 acres land.

They even stated that they will continue to invest in the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force so they could get the required Training and the resources for the purpose of quality citizen security.

Further, he emphasized that this construction will act in satisfying the law enforcement requirement which will give hands together in strengthening the security mechanisms. 

Under this, the National Insurance Property Development and Management Company Limited will undertake the project by utilizing the credits by National Insurance corporation. 

After its completion, the Government of Saint Lucia will make a lease agreement for 15 years. The complete ownership will belong to the country after the expiration of the lease agreement.
