Castries, Saint Lucia: Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia commenced training sessions dubbed Gros Islet District Netball Program for all netballers on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Gros Islet Court.
While sharing the update on Facebook, the Ministry of Sports invited the netballers of Saint Lucia to be part of the training session. The training program will focus on the skills development and overall growth of the athletes so that they emerge as good players.
Training for all netballers in the Gros Islet District Netball Program commenced officially on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Gros Islet Court. This initiative is spearheaded by Alice C. Lynch, a qualified netball coach in the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports, and ably supported by Kenson Casimir, parliamentary representative of Gros Islet, also the Minister for Youth Development and Sports.
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia invited interested netballers from the Gros Islet district, whether new, active or retired and said that they are all invited to the various training sessions, which are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. at the Gros Islet Court.
It also outlined that thus far, persons from Monchy, Corinth, Gros Islet Town, Grande Riviere have participated and train on the days which most accommodate their various schedules.
On Tuesday, March 28, the Gros Islet team defeated a visiting English team 36-22 in a practice match held at the Gros Islet court. A further twelve minute game between the two teams brought the total score to 50-24. Training continues on Saturday, April 1, at the Gros Islet court.
Earlier, the Gros Islet North Youth and Sports Council donated one hundred (100) notebooks to the Gros Islet Primary School in an effort to support students in need.
