Saint Lucia clinches ECVA U23 Women’s Volleyball Championships title
Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia secured victory in the ECVA U23 Women’s Championships on Sunday night. The national team defeated Sint Maarten in straight set to the capture the title for 2023.
The final match of the tournament was held at Massacre Indoor Facility, Dominica. TheU23 volleyball tournament was started on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 between different teams of the Caribbean.
Four teams were able to qualify for the play off matches of the tournament. The match for the first place were held between Saint Lucia and St Maarten due to their highest points in the standing.
Saint Lucia secured victory with the perfect score of 25-17, 24-21, 25-17 in each set against St Maarten.
While the match for the third place was held between Dominica and British Virgin Islands. The VI girls reached the semi-finals after finishing second in Group B but lost to Saint Lucia in their semi-final game last night at the Massacre Indoor Facility in Massacre, St Paul Parish.
The VI team, who had beaten Anguilla in their final group game earlier in the day, had an opportunity to level matters in the second set when they led 19-14, but allowed Saint Lucia to rally for the comeback win.
The VI has played against Dominica for the bronze medal. Host Dominica lost to St Maarten in their semi-final clash, 16-25, 11-25, 22-25. Meanwhile, the VI lost to Dominica 1-3 in their Group B clash on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. The lost was buckled by Virgin Island in the match for third place.
The tournament was held in collaboration with the Sports Division of Dominica. Nine teams participated in the Under 23 Volleyball Tournament. The name of the teams are as follows
