Castries, Saint Lucia: The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia named the twelve-member Junior Basketball team for the 5th ALBA games to be held in Venezuela from April 21-29, 2023.

Falling on the heels of a series of training programs held by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports – Saint Lucia at the Vigi Complex, a twelve-member team representing four secondary schools has been selected and will travel to Caracas, Venezuela next week to participate in the ALBA Games.

Earlier this week, the selected student-athletes, accompanied by their parents, executive members of the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF), and coaches held a dialogue with Ministry officials headed by Sports Director, Jim Xavier at the Ministry for Youth Development and Sports conference room to discuss any concerns raised by parents of the traveling student-athletes.

The meeting was a cordial one and went down well with all the parties involved. In Venezuela, Saint Lucia will start their campaign against Cuba on Tuesday, April 25th; then host country Venezuela the following day (Wednesday, 26th); in their final preliminary round match, Saint Lucia will play Dominica on Thursday, 27th.

The quarterfinal is scheduled for Friday 28th, while the semifinal and final will take place on Saturday 29th. The team is under the watchful eyes of Coach – Ron Du Murville and Glen Guiste, the two coaches will continue their final preparation up until next week.

The Saint Lucia squad reads – Anthony Alexander, Azeem Edwards, Phinehas Raymond, Joel Desriviere (Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School); Jovanny Antoine, Dante Serville, Glen Guiste, Zahir Leslie, Arnold Martial (St. Mary’s College); Teige Flavien (Corinth Secondary School) and Junior Dupre (Patricia D. Earlier, the madame president met with the Venezuelan ambassador to Saint Lucia to discuss their participation in the 5th ALBA Games scheduled to be held in Caracas, Venezuela next month. The ALBA Games is a Biennial multi-sport event organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas. Players Sixtus Jason Gabriel, Cyrus D. Daniel, Nathaniel Mathurin, Tris-Ann Richards, Kaieem Elizee and admin Arvin Nicholas will be representing Saint Lucia in Chess at the Games.Â
