The Government of Dominica has further informed that the project costs more than 2.5 million dollars, and it was funded by the Government of Canada through the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Dominica.

Rosseau, Dominica: The rehabilitation of the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary School in Marigot (The most significant settlement of Saint Andrew Parish in northeastern Dominica) is near completion. On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Prime Minister Dr Roosvelt Skerrit has shared the update on the project and stated that the rehabilitation of the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary Schools in Marigot is underway and will be completed in some time. 

The Government of Dominica has further informed that the project costs more than 2.5 million dollars, and it was funded by the Government of Canada through the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Dominica.

While informing about the project cost, PM Skerrit, through his Facebook Post, wrote, “The over $2.5 million projects are funded by the Government of Canada named rough the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Dominica”. 

The construction of the primary school would facilitate the students with the advanced technologies and also aid students in their carrier development. 

Outlining the work under construction, PM Skerrit informed that the project contains constructions of various works such as the installation of new roofs ceilings, reconstruction of the main classroom block, library/computer lab and auditorium. 

Moreover, the guidance counselling room, kitchen, cafeteria and washrooms, and construction of a new Early Childhood Facility and the administrative block is also under construction through the project.

“The works included the installation of new roofs and ceilings; reconstruction of the main classroom block, library/computer lab, auditorium, guidance counselling room, kitchen, cafeteria and washrooms; and construction of a new Early Childhood Facility and administrative block”, underscored prime minister.

Prime Minister Skerrit has constantly been working on various rehabilitation projects that faced huge consequences due to Hurricane Maria.

Earlier last week, PM Skerrit informed about the completion of the Hillsborough Bridge at St Joseph of Dominica and stated that the Bridge is ready for vehicular traffic.    

He also informed that the completion of the Bridge had cost around 8.9 million dollars in Loyou and also stated that it would facilitate people around the area.

“I toured parts of the St. Joseph Constituency, accompanied by Parliamentary Representative Dr Adis King, Minister for Public Works, Digital Economy, Cassanni Laville and Minister for Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Kent Edwards, PM Skerrit added. 

While appreciating PM Skerrit and various projects led by the government of Dominica as one of the residents named Jo-Ann George asserted, “Kudos to Project Manager Kervelle George Munro and her team. Job well done”. 

He also provided information about the various other projects that are being built by the government of Dominica and outlined, “Work is progressing rapidly on 3.8-kilometre Layou Valley Road project, which would be stretching from Hillsborough Bridge to Yorke Valley Bridge, improving access for farmers and commuters alike.”

He further shared the bit update on the new Health Wellness Centre, to be constructed in the constituency. “In St. Joseph, I looked at the proposed site for a new Health and Wellness Center. Construction is begun by mid of this year. The St. Joseph basketball court would be rehabilitated by the government and assist residents of Layou in developing the beachfront as an area for economic activity”. 

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also applauded the thirty young people who will participate in the National Youth Parliament, which will be held from March 23 to 24, 2022. The programme will be held at the House of Assembly of Dominica, and PM Skerrit addressed the youth on Friday, February 25, 2022, and explained the importance of the youth parliament for their career.

He further underlined the importance of the Youth Parliament; PM Skerrit underscored that it would facilitate youth in the upliftment of their skills and would increase their confidence. 

PM Skerrit informed about the various topics of the youth parliament and outlined, “The youth parliamentarians will debate on matters such as Marijuana as an Economic Driver, Mandatory Vaccination, Housing Development, Geothermal Energy and the International Airport”.

PM Skerrit also held an on-site meeting with the leaders of the National Scout Association and the Girl Guides Association of Dominica had facilitated the old Scouts/Girl Guides Center on High Street as Melissa Skerrit has proposed various plans to uplift the site. She asserted that she has put forth multiple initiatives in front of the associations, which includes the construction of a multi-purpose facility on the site.

Moreover, PM Skerrit is now attending the thirty-third Inter-Sessional conference with the CARICOM Heads in Belize and informed that discussion is underway on the various matters of concern. 

The Meeting hosted by CARICOM also featured various major issues, such as the post-pandemic economic recovery of the particular region, advancing the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Moreover, the Heads will also discuss the various aspects of building a more resilient Caribbean Community and the tough situation prevailing in Haiti, such as the political deadlock and security and social-economic challenges.
