Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali, along with several CARICOM Heads of Government and other Regional officials, participated in a Caribbean-Roraima Investors Luncheon at the Santa Fé farm in North Rupununi.

At the luncheon, the Brazilian investors, who represent half of the production capacity of the State of Roraima, made presentations on their capacity and capabilities and spoke of their intentions to collaborate with Guyana and the wider CARICOM Region in agriculture.

Presentations were also made by a high-level team from the State of Roraima, including its Secretary of Agriculture, Marlon Buss.

After the meeting, the Government of Guyana, through the Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Zulfikar Mustapha, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Roraima to enhance agriculture through research and development.

Roraima is one of 26 states in Brazil and covers an area of approximately 86,300 square miles.

In addition to that, Dr Irfaan Ali, several CARICOM Heads of Government and other Regional officials travelled to Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) today to take part in discussions with Brazilian investors and to view the potential of the region.

President Irfaan Ali and First Lady Mrs Arya Ali hosted a State Dinner for the visiting Caribbean Heads of Government and their delegations last night on the lawns of State House.

The Regional visitors and local invitees were treated to an art exhibition curated by renowned Guyanese sculptor, Winslow Craig and a rousing cultural presentation before dinner.

Several Senior Government officials, including the Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d),  Mark Phillips and the Vice President,  Dr Bharrat Jagdeo were also at the event.

Dr Irfaan Ali and the visiting CARICOM leaders witnessed the official opening of the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

First Lady Mrs Arya Ali did the symbolic cutting of the ribbon.

The three-day event, a collaboration between the Government of Guyana and the CARICOM Secretariat, aims to facilitate discussions specifically linked to investment opportunities in agriculture and food production.

Discussions will cover agriculture funding, access to new markets, cross-border investment zones, and infrastructure development needs of the region.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, President Ali and the visiting leaders toured the exhibits and interacted with exhibitors and patrons.
