Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali interacted with vendors and patrons during a walk-about exercise at the Leonora Market, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) on the morning of Saturday, April 8, 2022.
The Head of State, accompanied by several Cabinet Ministers, walked the length of the market and listened to the concerns and challenges facing the vendors, which included the condition of the road leading to the market where they ply their trade.
Further, the President of Guyana also assured that not only would the government invest the money to repair the road but that a tarmac would also be constructed where the vendors would be able to operate their businesses in a better environment.
The Ministers, who were also accompanied by some of their technical staff from their respective Ministries, were able to provide on-the-spot solutions to concerns raised.
The President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali was accompanied by the Senior Minister within the Office of the President, Dr Ashni Singh, who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, who is the Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, who is the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar; Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues and other government and regional officials.
Further, President Dr Irfaan Ali also shared some photos on his social media in which he could see interacting with vendors and patrons of Guyana. He was listening to their issues and their struggling life. He also shared video on his Facebook page where President is talking with the street vendors and getting knowledge about their several issues while working on the street.
The interaction between the President and vendors was applauded by the residents of Guyana.
One of the residents named Melissa Cheong stated, “Love what you’re doing Mr President. I pray God’s to favour upon you that you’ll have continued good health, wisdom and strength to carry out plans. And may he cause your mountains to move, more doors to open, and the continued love and out sharing of support from the people. Amen, bless you.”
