Guyana: President Dr. Irfaan Ali attended the launch of the University of Guyana Master’s Degree in Strategic Development Studies at its Turkeyen Campus on Monday, March 27, 2022.
President Ali also delivered the keynote address at the launch of the University at its Turkeyen Campus this afternoon.
President Ali was joined by several cabinet ministers, including Senior Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, and Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand.
Further, the event was also attended by other government officials. Other government representatives, including high-level security officials, members of the diplomatic community, and administrators of the University of Guyana, were also at the event.
University of Guyana Institute for Human Resilience, Strategic Security, and the Future will deliver the programme, which is expected to start soon.
While addressing the event, President Dr. Irfaan Ali said the introduction of the new Master’s Degree in Strategic Development Studies at the University of Guyana is one of the most transformative aspects of the institution.
The Head of State made this assertion today during his keynote address at the launch of the programme at the George Walcott Lecture Theatre at the Turkeyen Campus.
“This programme is geared towards developing the minds in a policy framework, in an analytical framework; bringing the output to a level in which they (the graduates) can apply themselves to very complex problems and issues,” President Ali added.
The President further outlined the significance of sustainable development and the way the programme highlighted a strategic level of thinking.
He also added that the programme is about aligning theory with practice and with real-life problems. It also includes the development of each individual’s capability to deal with those challenges strategically. The programme will also aid the authorities in getting prepared for future challenges after appreciating the evolution of such challenges.
President Ali emphasized that national development could also be illustrated by the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine and their implications regionally and internationally.
