Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali and his delegation arrived in Los Angeles, California, for the ninth Summit of the Americas. President is accompanied by First Lady Arya Ali; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud; Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States, Samuel Hinds and Ambassador George Talbot.
At the ceremony, President Ali also met United States President, Joseph Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The Summit is being held under the theme, “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future.”
The Summit is being held this week under the theme, “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future”. Through the Summit, leaders from the United States, North, Central and South America and the Caribbean are expected to explore economic relationships and common goals for the Western Hemisphere.
Discussions are forecasted to cover topics such as democracy, clean energy, digital transformation, climate change, migration, recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, building resilience, and boosting economic growth. A number of initiatives are expected to be launched in some of these areas.
President Irfaan Ali was also interviewed by Elaine Reyes of CGTN America. He spoke of his Government’s developmental agenda, how revenue garnered from the new oil and gas sector will be used for the benefit of all Guyanese, among other topics.
Further, Dr Irfaan Ali was interviewed by New York Times’ Latin America and Caribbean correspondent, Anatoly Kurmanaev and its Latin America editor Diego Ribadeneira.
President Dr Irfaan Ali spoke on several areas, including the state of the oil industry and how it is impacting the broader economy and the Guyanese society.
He is in Los Angeles, California, for this week’s ninth Summit of the Americas.
