President Irfaan Ali addresses Guyanese diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago

Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali reassured a large gathering of Guyanese living in Trinidad and Tobago that they are essential to the development of Guyana. The President made the remarks while addressing the Guyanese diaspora at the Radisson Hotel in Port of Spain this afternoon. 

President Ali emphasized that his Government is leading a movement to harness the talent, expertise, and experience of all Guyanese across the world to be utilized for the growth, development, and upliftment of the country.

He added that “we are on the same team” on a single path of achieving ‘One Guyana’ that will see every single citizen living a prosperous life.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha; the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond; CEO of GO-Invest Dr Peter Ramsaroop and other Government officials were also at the meeting. The respective ministers also provided an update and outlook on their sectors.

Dr Irfaan Ali met and interacted with a number of Guyanese living in Trinidad and Tobago last night following a diaspora meeting in the Twin Island Republic. Prior to the meet-and-greet, the President addressed the gathering and spent some time fielding questions.

“I end on a good note for my friends in Trinidad and Tobago—whether it is curry chicken or chicken curry, we will have ­curry.” These were the words of Guyana’s President, Dr Irfaan Ali, 42, at the Agri Investment Forum on Friday.

What he did not say is that he cooks very good curry, and when he is not working to transform Guyana and pursuing his mission of food security for the region, he enjoys turning a good pot.

In a one-on-one interview with the Sunday Express at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port of Spain, on Friday, the President, who returns to Guyana today after a five-day state visit to T&T, shared his vision for Guyana and a bit of his personal life that has made him the man and leader he is today. 

President Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, are in Brazil meeting with the Governor of Roraima, Antonio Denarium, at the Governor’s Palace in Boa Vista.

Discussions are focused on agriculture, trade, infrastructure and strengthening bilateral relations between Guyana, Barbados and Roraima.

Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond and senior officials of the Barbadian Government are also at the meeting.

President Ali and Prime Minister Mottley flew over to Boa Vista from Trinidad and Tobago today, where they attended the Twin Island Republic’s second Agri-Investment Forum and Expo.
