President Ali meets Guyanese boxers, extends wishes for 'Road to Redemption' boxing event

Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali met with Guyanese boxers Elton Dharry and Dexter’ The Kid’ Marques and Panamanian boxers Orlando Penalba and Gilberto Pedroza at State House on Friday, April 22, 2022. 

The boxers will be fighting in the ‘Road to Redemption’ boxing event on Saturday (April 23) at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.

Dharry, a US-based pugilist, is expected to battle Penalba for the WBC Super Flyweight International title in the feature clash, while Marques will face Pedroza for the WBC Flyweight International Silver belt.

Several other Guyanese boxers are also expected to be in action. The promoters of the event were also at State House.

The citizens of Guyana have also hailed the boxers. One of the residents named Lallbeharry Ramkaran said, “Congratulations, Elected President Of The Cooperative Republic of Guyana u are extreme to reach out of all class of Guyana N Guyanese in Guyana N Abroad u are positive for one Guyana.”

Further, Asha Dalli, a resident of Guyana, stated, “They all should be given a house and land just like what other country does for their athletes that shines on the world stage. Congratulations to all the athletes; you did excellent I know you make your President proud; hold up your head high and be proud to be Guyanese best of luck for the future.”
