Guyana: The President of Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali on Wednesday met with the Ambassadors from the European nation. President Ali reaffirmed his commitment to advancing bilateral relations with Germany and the European Union (EU) during the meet.
Both parties discussed several areas, including Guyana’s development agenda, climate change, smart agriculture, technology transfer, sustainable energy, manufacturing, robotics, urban and rural planning, the COVID-19 vaccination programmes, and industrial development.
During the meet, the Head of the State also highlighted his transformation plan for Guyana and emphasised that the oil and gas sector is not the main staple of the economy since his government is working on diversification to improve existing industries and to create new opportunities for its citizens.
Following the above statement, President Ali added, “It would make sure that our people have access to world-class healthcare, a world-class education system while providing a sustainable housing initiative, and one that would not only build homes but also create equity, especially among low-income earners.”
President Ali further noted that historically, Guyana had provided leadership on this front while pointing to the extended Low Carbon Development Strategy, upon which Guyana’s development is outlined.
He further addressed the food security matter of Guyana.
The Head of State of Guyana made these statements at his office, during a courtesy visit by Ambassador & the Regional Director for Latin America & the Caribbean from the Federal German Foreign Office – Marian Schuegraf, and German Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago – Ute König.
In addition, the President of Guyana met with the executive members of the Chinese Association of Guyana on Wednesday at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive. The five-member Chinese delegation was led by their President, Mr Ruihui Su.
Various important issues were discussed during the meet. President Ali was accompanied by the Vice President of Guyana – Bharrat Jagdeo.
