President Ali interacts with hundreds of cane harvesters of Guyana

President Dr Irfaan Ali held a meeting with hundreds of cane harvesters from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on the West Coast of Demerara on the afternoon of Friday, April 15, 2022. 

Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali held a meeting with hundreds of cane harvesters from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on the West Coast of Demerara on the afternoon of Friday, April 15, 2022. 

President Ali grasps the opportunity and reassures the workers of the sugar mill that his Government will not leave the workers alone in this tough time and the sugar industry. 

Further, the workers of the sugar mill also raised their issues and complied with the President of Guyana that they were out of work for several weeks. So, after hearing all the problems being faced by the workers, the President consulted with the company and ordered them to provide alternative work to the workers for six days per week. 

The President of Guyana also gives assurance to the workers that the Government of the Caribbean island is working on a livelihood programme. There are also included several other initiatives that will assist the workers in earning their livelihoods and also help to alleviate their burdens.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, also joined the President of Guyana. 

Further, on the same day, in the wake of the Good Friday, President Dr Irfaan Ali joined hundreds of Christians at the Lifespring Ministries, Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara. 

He also addresses the community on the spot and outlines various beliefs of the Christians. 

During brief remarks, President Ali highlighted the significance of the Church. President Ali stated that it is the most important part of our society.

 In addition to that, he said the Church is a place where important principles such as justice, peace, tolerance, patience, and faith rest are taught to the common citizens.

President Ali also emphasized that this foundation should always be a beacon of hope and should always lead by example.

“Good Friday is a day of reflection, especially about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is observed by fasting and prayer,” underlined President Irfaan Ali. 

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall have accompanied President Ali.
