President Ali inspects Region five area amid flood situation

The President of Guyana - Dr Irfaan Ali, paid a visit to Region five on 8 June 2021 to assess the situation and interacted with the communities and farmers amid the flood situation in the country.

Guyana: The President of Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali, paid a visit to Region five on 8 June 2021 to assess the situation and interacted with the communities and farmers amid the flood situation in the country.

President Ali, on his visit, was also accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture – Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, Hon. Nigel Dharamlall – Minister of Local Government and Regional Development and by other officials.

The President also visited the communities of Big Biaboo, Mortice, Wash Clothes/Hyde Park, Barabara and Pine Ground in the Mahaica or Mahaicony region.

On his visit to Big Biaboo located in Mahaica Creek, Region Five, President Ali asserted that the Guyana government would have a complete assessment of the flood-affected regions and stated that the government would apply every possible way to get the water off this land as soon as possible.

The President added, “The medium and long-term issues related to the citizens being able to get back into their farms and other means of livelihood. The losses you have faced, the government would help you to get back on your feet again.”

President Ali further assured the government’s support to the citizens of the flood-affected areas in the country and actions would be taken to bring relief to those who have been affected by the flood.

He assured the citizens that additional systems are being placed to allow for more long-term solutions and the priority of his government remains to provide adequate food supplies, shelter and access to health facilities to the citizens affected by the flood.

For the past few days, President Ali had been on the ground visit to inspect the flood-affected areas, and he will continue his visit from 9 June 2021 to Region six. Region ten is one of the heavily-flood affected areas where the water level has reached to 15 feet.
