Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali hosted a cocktail reception in observance of World Press Freedom Day 2022 at Castellani House last night, where he interacted with members of the local media fraternity.

The event was also attended by several Cabinet Ministers, government officials, the Barbadian Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, and several members of the diplomatic community.

President Dr Irfaan Ali re-emphasised his Government’s ‘One Guyana’ Policy and its aim of unifying and transforming the country during a virtual community-based talk show, the One Guyana Journal.

The President spoke extensively this evening about the importance of good governance, democracy, inclusivity and other tenets that are at the core of his ‘One Guyana’ Policy and about the ways the policy would transform the country and its citizens.

He also highlighted some of his Government’s transformative plans to develop sport and culture.

The online programme was hosted and moderated by UK-based Guyanese, Shameeza Ally and Dr Tara Singh respectively.

“On this Arrival Day, let us all move forward as a united country, mindful that each of our various peoples has a claim on national development and an entitlement to share in the great bounty which the future promises,” he added.

He said that everyone should be committed to living like Brothers and Sisters in peace, harmony and goodwill, knowing that in doing so, we will be preserving and honouring the legacy of those who came and those who were here before them!

President Dr Irfaan Ali accepted the Letters of Credence from the Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Guyana, H.E Sandra Lang Linkensederova, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive on Thursday, May 5, 2022.
