Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali underscored the importance of international standard investments during his feature address at the Commissioning Ceremony of GAICO Construction and General Services’ new dredge at Nismes on the West Bank Demerara on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
The President emphasized that the country must now aim to play on the international market while at the same time satisfying local demand. He spoke extensively about the rapid development underway in Region 3 (Essequibo Islands, West Demerara).
President Ali was joined by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; the Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton; the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar; Head of the Private Sector Commission, Paul Cheong and members of the diplomatic community.
President Dr Irfaan Ali was ringside last evening at the ‘Road to Redemption’ boxing event at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
Guyanese boxer Elton Dharry, a US-based pugilist, out-punched Panamanian boxer Orlando Penalba for the WBC Super Flyweight International title in the feature clash, while Guyanese boxer Dexter’ The Kid’ Marques lost to Panamanian Gilberto Pedroza in a battle for the WBC Flyweight International Silver belt.
Before the fights began, President Ali mingled and interacted with fans and spectators gathered at the venue.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson, Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, members of the diplomatic community and other government officials joined the Head of State at the matches.
President Dr Irfaan Ali also addressed GAICO’s commissioning ceremony for its new dredge at Nismes, West Bank Demerara, yesterday afternoon.
