The ongoing ugly public spectacle of the NRP really comes down to one thing and that is the absolute inexperience and lack of leadership of the NRP Leader. But I am not surprised. You see the NRP Leader was chosen from on high in St Kitts as someone who could be controlled. The final decision rested with St Kitts even as 2 prominent Nevisians acted as the messengers.

An informal NRP Executive was set up outside the official central party Executive. That informal Executive met frequently in St Thomas’ parish. It was to take all decisions then send to the official NRP executive for rubber stamping.

The NRP insiders went along with the new Leader on the promise that funding and favour would flow from on high in Basseterre. They made their deal and stuck to it even as it was clear that the self proclaimed “Top Dawg” couldn’t deliver as the ship was sinking.

And what was the deal? Simple. Money and influence would flow from Church Street to assist NRP and those around it to unseat the CCM as the CCM winning all 3 seats in Nevis in 2020 was of MAJOR concern to those in Basseterre. They argued that CCM under my leadership was becoming too dominant in Nevis and feared what that dominance might mean for the national politics.

So they did what all charlatans do. They found a weak and hopeless NRP and used a few CCM who they thought had influence and selected a puppet to lead the NRP on the commitment that once that puppet kept the NRP aligned against me and CCM and was willing to join up with the puppet masters in Basseterre then all will be well.

But too smart always dies at one smart door. The plot failed. NRP, with all the money sent from Basseterre, still couldn’t win an election. Those who grabbed at fool’s gold are politically no more, the big money that used to flow is no more and the self proclaimed braggadocio Top Dawg is now little more than a mangy chihuahua.

Poor NRP is now paying a huge price for accepting a deal for financial support and agreeing to an incompetent leader whose last leadership role saw several members of her team going to jail for corruption.

And so the ugly public spectacle will continue as it is really about a colossal failure of leadership and the story of a once proud Nevisian political Party that sold its soul for 30 pieces of silver.
