Premier Mark Brantley condemns tragic mass shooting in Brooklyn
St Kitts and Nevis: Premier of Nevis and leader of Concerned Citizens’ Movement Mark Brantley extended deepest sympathy and sorrow on the tragic incident and mass shooting in Brooklyn that happened on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
Premier Brantley also condemned the incident and expressed disapproval of any kind of violence. He stated violence of any kind where innocent people lost their lives for no reason.
Premier of Nevis Brantley noted, “My prayers are with the victims of the tragic mass shooting in Brooklyn yesterday and their families.”
“Many Caribbean people and more specifically Kittitians and Nevisians call Brooklyn home and we empathize with them and with the entire community. The violence of all kinds and in all forms is abhorrent and must be widely and unreservedly condemned”, underlined Prmeire Brantley.
In the incident, on the subway train in Brooklyn, a gunman who have worn a gas mask opened fire when the train was full of a crowd. The incident injured at least 23 people, as per the reports.
The commuters who get frightened bolted from the train while others limped out, and at least one cyclist collapsed.
“My metro door slammed shut, causing chaos. Eyewitness Sam Carcamo told radio station 1010 WINS. It was smoke and blood and people shouting.” According to him, smoke streamed out of the railway car as the door opened.
Further, in the incident, a total of five people were critically ill, but they survived. On the other, around 29 people have been hospitalized with gunshot injuries, smoke inhalation, and other ailments.
The gunshots erupted aboard a train as it approached a station in the Sunset Park neighbourhood, which is roughly a 15-minute train trip from Manhattan and is primarily Hispanic and Asian.
The attack is not being investigated as terrorism, according to Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, but she is “not ruling anything out.” The motive of the shooter was unknown.
