Popular porn site Pornhub has removed millions of videos that featured underage subjects, along with victims of sex-trafficking.

Limassol Cyprus: Popular porn site Pornhub has removed millions of videos that featured underage subjects, along with victims of sex-trafficking.

This occurs in after Visa, and Mastercard cut ties with the website after a New York Times report showed how many inappropriate and illegal videos were circulating on the website, many featuring minors.

Due to that, Pornhub has removed the bulk of its content and now forbids unverified users from posting content on the website.

In addition to eliminating illegal videos, PornHub is in the method of removing videos that were uploaded by unverified users.

Stating the move in a blog post, the company stated that it is therefore removing all content originating from unverifiable sources while chiding mega social media firms like Facebook and Twitter for their inability to do the same.

“This means every bit of Pornhub content is from verified uploaders, a requirement that floors like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat plus Twitter have still to the institute,” the company stated.

“At Pornhub, the security of our community is our top priority”, it replied.

Soon after the extraction process began, the number of videos on the website went from 13 million over just 4 million, according to a summary by Motherboard.

Even though it’s a step in the correct direction to curb underage content, it will also hurt sex workers, who use platforms like Pornhub to make a living through the pandemic, which has already left most utmost of them without wages.

This is the first time for the launch of Pornhub in 2007 that only verified content would end up on the site.

To become verified, a Pornhub user needs to submit a photo of themselves with a piece of paper having their username. Once verified, users can monetise their videos.

Pornhub insists that it is being targeted not because of how its plans compare to its peers, but only because it hosts adult content.
