PNM sabotaged efforts of UNC to secure borders: Kirk Meighoo

UNC's PRO- Kirk Meigho, once again targeted the government and blamed that the ruling party- PNM, has sabotaged the efforts of KPB's government to secure the borders. 

Trinidad and Tobago: UNC’s PRO- Kirk Meigho, once again targeted the government and blamed that the ruling party- PNM, has sabotaged the efforts of KPB’s government to secure the borders. 

He further pointed out the work done by the UNC- United National Congress and asserted, “This is what Kamla Persad Bissessar’s-KPB’s Government did after successfully winning $1.4bn for the PNM’s failed OPV contract-“

He added-“Our government bought-“

  •  Four Damen Stan Patrol 5009 Coastal Patrol Vessels
  • Two Damen Fast Crew Supply 5009 Utility Vessels and
  •  Six Damen Interceptor DI 1102 interceptors were purchased, also
  •  A Long-Range Patrol Vessel (LPV) from China.

He further pointed out that “These vessels had different ranges and speeds and are capable of locking down the border of Trinidad and Tobago.”

“Six of the Twelve Damen vessels and Utility boats now lie idle in the Staubles Bay, in addition to the Chinese Long Range Patrol vessel, which are unable to be used due to the shortage of fuel, food supplies and manpower strength to man all vessels to patrol.”

Adding to this he further said, “In addition, the helicopter assets which were also an integral part of border security, have been grounded since Keith Rowley came into government in 2015. The difference between the two governments is absolutely clear.”

United National Congress- UNC is one of two major political parties in Trinidad and Tobago Island which is led by Kamla Persad Bissesar and currently, the opposition party. T UNC is a centre-left political party. Basdeo Panday in 1989 founded the United National Congress. 

Currently, PNM- People’s National Movement party has its government in Trinidad and Tobago, and – Keith Rowley is the Prime Minister of the Caribbean island.

UNC works on the ideology of- social democracy, civic nationalism and third way. Out of 41 members of the House of Representatives, UNC holds 19 seats, seven out of 14 seats in the regional cooperation, sixty seven out of 139 seats in regional muncipalities.
