PM Timothy Harris visits Philip’s villages to assess damages due to floods

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris conducted a walkthrough in Phillip’s village this morning to assess the damages done thereafter; several residents had their homes and yards flooded as a result of overflowing ghauts. 

On Saturday, April 30, 2022, Prime Minister visited the constituency and interacted with the people who have suffered a lot due to the yards floods. 

Prime Minister Harris, who is the Parliamentary Representative for the area, was accompanied by the Director of Public Works, Mr George Gilbert.

Huge pieces of debris and derelict vehicles blocked the culvert in the area, causing the gushing waters to overflow in nearby yards and homes.

Expressing pleasure, PM Harris noted, “I am satisfied with the strong community response in getting the village of Phillips back to near normalcy after the flooding. Climate change is real. We will build resilient communities.”

Earlier on Friday, April 29, 2022, Prime Minister Timothy Harris also attended with CARICOM heads of state the virtual talks held by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. The virtual meeting has been held to address the issue of climate change, which is affecting small island nations adversely. 

The discussion was also focused on ways forwards for great participation and cooperation, and security. 

Earlier, Prime Minister announced the final measures to be implemented to combat the rising prices of food and fuel and the cost of general living in St Kitts and Nevis. 

Several improvements in the working conditions of government employees were determined. 

The Cabinet received and discussed a report on the final preparations thus far for the state funeral of Former Premier of Nevis and Ambassador Vance Amory. 

The Cabinet also approved submissions that would bring considerable benefits to citizens and residents of the Federation. 

PM Harris also made efforts to uplift the lives of the countrymen and also announced the hike in prices of the employees of the Federation.
