PM Timothy Harris lauds people of Philip’s village for restoring normalcy after floods

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris applauded the people of Philip’s community after being hit by the heavy floods on Saturday, April 30, 2022. PM Harris praised the community for immediately taking necessary steps to clear the debris and generally restoring the affected area to normalcy. 

The reason behind the floods and heavy rains was heavy rains and erosion, and Prime Minister has also visited the site to ensure the proper assistance to the affected people. 

On Saturday, during the visit of Prime Minister Harris, who is also a member of Parliament for the area, provided proper support, solidarity and assistance to the community so that they could be recovered immediately and effectively. 

In the heavy floods, overflowing ghauts and roads caused severe damage to various homes, furniture and fencing in the area, and two shops particularly have largely impacted. 

Further, various officials such as Director of Public Works George Gilbert and Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abdias Samuel also joined PM Timothy Harris at the site. Further, the government officials have also conducted an extensive tour and engaged with persons who have faced the severe impact of the floods. At the site, PM harris also lauded the efforts of the score of villagers who mobilized and restored the community.

Expressing pleasure, PM Harris noted, “I am satisfied with the strong community response in getting the village of Phillips back to near normalcy after the flooding. Climate change is real. We will build resilient communities.”
