Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, met with residents of Upper Monkey Hill to discuss the Freehold Title, Rehabilitation of Fencing Project on Wednesday.

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, met with residents of Upper Monkey Hill to discuss the Freehold Title, Rehabilitation of Fencing Project on Wednesday. The project is a similar initiative to the one undertaken at La Guerite.

PM Dr Terrance Drew took to Facebook and shared glimpses of interaction. He was accompanied by the Minister of Sustainable Development, Dr Joyelle Clarke, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Shez Dore-Tyson, and Ambassador Cedric Liburd.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss the regularization of the lands in that area, as families have lived there for generations but do not legally own the land. The initiative is in an effort to empower the residents and grant them ownership of the land at no cost. The programme was promised to their fellow residents of St Peters during their 2022 election campaign, and it is being delivered as pledged.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development of St Kitts and Nevis continued its Land Allocation Normalization and Distribution (LAND) project for 2023 with the commencement of the regularization of lands in the Upper Monkey Hill area of St. Peters, Constituency #8. The Ministry of Sustainable Development stated that the project will assist families by regularizing the lands in the area.

He said, “The prime focus of the meeting is dependent upon the regularization of the lands in this area, as families have lived here for generations but do not legally own the land. The project will empower the residents and grant them rightful ownership of the land at no cost.”

There are one hundred and seventy-seven (177) households on approximately thirty-eight (38) acres of land. Along with the prime minister, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Dr Joyelle Clarke, also addressed the residents of Upper Monkey Hill.

Earlier, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also met with the citizens of his constituency #8. He engaged with the residents and listened to their several matters of concern related to socio-economic aspects.
