St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and Premier Mark Brantley extended greetings and warm wishes on World Mental Health Day, which is observed on October 10, 2022, every year. The theme for the year is “make mental health for all a global priority”.
He added that World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10 each year and this year it is celebrated under the theme “make mental health for all a global priority”. It is critical that we raise awareness of mental health issues and lend support where necessary.
Shedding light upon the significance of Mental Health, PM Terrance Drew asserted that Mental health challenges are some of the most common health issues people face (depression, stress etc), but the stigma associated with mental health issues is what hinders persons from seeking the help they need. Everyone intends to do more to create awareness and sensitivity around mental wellness in society.
“I understand the significance of preserving one’s mental health and that is why I have made it a priority to support initiatives that promote mental wellbeing to create a positive environment that empowers and motivates our people, “said the prime minister.
He further emphasized the idea behind the World Mental Health 2022; PM Drew said that the idea is to educate our people and create an attitude change that brings awareness to mental wellness through the importance of selfcare…pay attention to your diet, exercise, meditate, strive for balance in your life. It is important to care for your mind, just as it is important to care for your body.
Along with that, Premier of Nevis- Mark Brantley also extended wishes on the World Mental Health and stated, “As we focus on Mental Health this week I take the opportunity to thank PS Shelisa Martin for allowing me the privilege of touring the new Mental Health facility at Prospect this morning. This building has been carefully repurposed to act as a stand alone center for serving our people who require care.”
He was very impressed with what he saw and thank the staff for the warm welcome. Mental health is critical to overall health and well-being and he urges people to be kind to each other and to be the brothers’ keeper and the sister’s helper.
