St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew met with Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, and his team and signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on February 17, 2023. The meeting was held during the Forty-Fourth (44th) conference of the CARICOM Heads of government. 

PM Terrance Drew also held several bilateral meetings with various representatives and other investors in the three-day conference of CARICOM. He took to social media and shared glimpses of the meeting of the government heads.

While signing the MOU with African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), PM Terrance Drew stated that St Kitts and Nevis is the first member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to sign an agreement with the bank. 

The agreement talked about the ways to implement strategic projects in renewable energy, such as a solar power plant, grid connectivity between St Kitts and Nevis in line with the nation’s shared commitment to developing geothermal energy, and smart metering, among other energy-related initiatives.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Denzil Douglas, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle, Ayman Elzoghby, Head of Intra-African Trade and Corporate Finance, Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President, Intra-African Trade; Christine Beblawy, Regional Commercial Director – Africa, Elsewedy Electric; Moataz Samy, Corporate Treasury Manager, Elsewedy Electric; Temwa Gondwe, Senior Manager, Intra-African Trade Bank; and Vitalis Ekene Uzor, Special Assistant to the President of Afreximbank.

PM Terrance Drew stated that St Kitts and Nevis will welcome the delegation from Afreximbank on Monday, February 20, 2023 to discuss various aspects of the proposed initiatives. 

During the CARICOM conference, PM Drew also held bilateral talks with the delegation of the European Union on Friday, February 17 2023. The meeting was held on the second day of the conference. 

European External Action Service (EEAS) Deputy Managing Director Javier Nino Perez chaired the delegation of the EU. European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Malgorzata Wasilewska also accompanied the delegation.

 The delegation of the European Union promoted the European Union-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) to be held in Brussels from 17-18 July 2023, after an eight (8) year hiatus. The delegation of St Kitts and Nevis holds bilateral talks with the European Union on matters related to renewable energy and the green economy.
