St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew had an insightful dialogue with a group of students from Columbia University. The interaction featured discussion on the role of the students in preserving environment.
PM Dr Terrance Drew outlined several aspects of the sustainability during his meeting with the students. He asked their views on these critical issues and said that these issues should be addressed effectively.
PM Drew also shed light on the role of the small island nations like St Kitts and Nevis in advancing sustainable development. He said that the small island nations have always remained vulnerable to the force of the nature.
They have faced severe effects of the climate change, such as rising seas levels and extreme weather events.
The interaction also featured discussion on the efforts of the government in building St Kitts and Nevis a resilience and sustainable country. PM Drew mentioned that they are on the drone to promote sustainable practices to fulfill their Sustainable Island State Agenda.
Further, PM Terrance Drew mentioned that their interaction with the students concluded with a sense of optimism and appreciation. He was also asked to sign their university’s flag where he inscribed “Become the change we need.”
New York Visit of PM Terrance Drew
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew visited New York for the session of the United Nations General Assembly. He represented St Kitts and Nevis and gave his presentation on Saturday (September 22, 2023).
During his high-level meeting, he addressed the issue of the non-Communicable disease, Tuberculosis and other health related problems. He emphasized the vital role of solidarity in addressing health issues.
Besides this, he also addressed the general debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. During his speech, he asked for the strategic approach while addressing the issues related to climate change, global inequalities, small island development states and global leadership.
He also outlined his vision to transform St Kitts and Nevis into Sustainable Island State by 2040. PM Terrance Drew asserted that together, they can work efficiently towards a more sustainable and equitable world.
During his speech, he said, ”Countries like mine which are unable to access concessionary funding are forced to fix the climate crisis by obtaining loans at exorbitant rates from the very countries where the problem originated.”
Meetings on the margins of UNGA
On the margins of the United Nation General Assembly, PM Terrance Drew addressed several High-Level Meetings on Health issues in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet. He asserted the vital role of the global community in developing the health sector of the countries in the Caribbean Community.
Besides this, he also expressed pleasure after receiving great response from their regional counterparts. He said that they unwavering support and belief in the shared goals have been incredibly heartwarming. It reinforces his conviction that together, they can make a meaningful impact on the global stage.
Further, he also attended Grand Gala and Cultural Extravaganza hosted by the permanent mission of St Kitts and Nevis on Friday.
