St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended warm greetings to St Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board on its 45th anniversary on Wednesday. He addressed the nation and stated that the celebration will be held under the theme: Transform Reform Thrive: Social Security 45.
PM Terrance Drew said that the Social Security organization has always worked for the upliftment of St Kitts and Nevis through its various programs. The organization has fulfilled all its functions, such as donations to health and national security, education, capital investment in local development projects, and support to youth programs and NGOs.
He also extended gratitude to founding fathers Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw and E. St John Payne. They both worked for the upliftment of the organization on the principles of equity, solidarity, and universality.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew asserted that the government has always been grateful for all the contributions made by former administrators, management, and staff. While extending gratitude, PM Drew added that their commitment and dedication provided the best possible benefits to the board.
With their commitment, now the Social Security Board is efficient in providing twenty-six benefits. PM Terrance Drew called the board the premiere pillar of society as it is helpful to provide payments to the insured in various situations such as sickness, maternity, employment injury, disability and old age, amongst others.
He added that today people have security and a plan b on which they can rely in uncertain situations. He outlined that this year, the board observed the maturing fund, which stands with a reserve of over $1.7 billion. The government of St Kitts and Nevis is also committed to playing a key role in bolstering the board and advancing its technology.
While providing official data, PM Terrance Drew asserted that the institution had been currently financially assisting 7000 age pensioners. He added that the robust fund can be depleted by 2040 or thereabout.
He promised that the government of St Kitts and Nevis has always committed to ensuring that the Reform Agenda is carried out and the best possible solutions are implemented over time to thrust Social Security into another 45 years of service to our people.
PM Drew mentioned that in order to celebrate the 45 anniversary of the Social Security Board, the government will host the church service for the management and staff at Zion Moravian Church on Sunday, February 5th, 2023.
Further, they will also host an awards gala, virtual Panel Discussion, scholarship Induction Ceremony and Stakeholders Meetings to promote the mission of social security and the reform agenda.
