Dr Terrance Drew, delivered short remarks on the historical occasion of the installation ceremony of St Kitts and Nevis' first female governor-general.

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, delivered short remarks on the historical occasion of the installation ceremony of St Kitts and Nevis’ first female governor-general. Right before the event, Prime Minister Drew was attending the OECS meeting discussing inter-regional travel, which kept him from reaching the event on time.

Consequently, the prime minister thanked Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley for keeping the event going and delivering his speech on his behalf. However, in the same breath, he noted that he could not let the momentous occasion go without saying a few words at the event.

Dr Terrance Drew noted on the occasion of the installation ceremony that they were celebrating a milestone that was long coming and that the government should already have achieved it. However, he also said that nothing could be achieved before its time.

Meanwhile, expanding upon the event’s significance, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that we strive to establish Equity as far as possible today. It is about gender. Prime Minister Terrance Drew said that no Nation can truly arrive at its full potential or even close if all its constituents are not considered to be on equal footing.

Clarifying further, Dr Terrance Drew stated that it does not mean that everybody will be the same. However, it means that we’ll have equal opportunity and just by achieving that Equity in gender, everyone benefits. He elaborated that a country’s GDP can grow just by getting an atmosphere of equal opportunities.

The prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, along with his administration, has remained committed to ensuring that the people can get equal opportunities in all spheres of life. During his remarks, Dr Terrance Drew noted that today’s ceremony is not just a celebration of gender equality but also signifies that the federation is equal.

Accordingly, he congratulated Governor General Marcella Liburd for her historical appointment and credited her for her lifetime of service to the country. On this occasion, Dr Drew recounted that Governor General Liburd had dedicated her life to the benefit of the people of St Kitts and Nevis. He noted that her life and services are the prime example of country above self.
