Dominica has accepted another shipment of the vaccine from Mexico as it donated 2,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the viral infection caused by the novel coronavirus on Thursday, February 18, 2022.

While noting the significance of the donation that aid the government in the vaccination drive, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has given the information about the contribution from Mexico. 

Prime Minister Skerrit cited that with the significant donation from the Mexican government, the stock of the vaccination available in the country has witnessed an incredible boost. 

PM Skerrit took to Twitter and provided the information about the donation and outlined,” On Thursday evening, Dominica received another supply of life-saving vaccines from the Government of Mexico to boost the stock that is already available to every eligible Dominican. I thank the government and people of Mexico for this generous donation“.

The interim Health Minister Kent Edwards and the Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Letitia Lestrade-Wyke of Dominica have accepted the doses of the vaccines from Mexico. 

Moreover, the Foreign Ministry of Mexico have also underscored the donation and exclaimed that they have stuck to their promise and fulfilled it on time. They have also urged that the country reaffirms its principles of guaranteeing equitable access to vaccines to the nations who really need the vaccine to fight the viral infection of the novel coronavirus. 

While highlighting the fulfilment of the promise, the Foreign Ministry of Mexico mentioned, “Mexico donates COVID-19 vaccines to Dominica and reaffirms its principles of guaranteeing equitable access to vaccines and promoting international cooperation and its fraternal ties with Latin America and the Caribbean “.

The donation has been made with the effective collaboration with the nations of the region, and the President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador has instructed the country to aid those who need the vaccine, asserted Foreign Ministry.

Dominica has vaccinated a total of 29,400 people with the second dose against the COVID-19 pandemic, while 32,027 people have recovered the first dose of the vaccine so far.
