Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, extended greetings and warm congratulations to Former CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, who received the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC) on Sunday, June 3, 2022. 

The award was given to the Former Secretary General at the opening ceremony of the Forty-third Regular CARICOM Heads of the government meetings in Suriname. 

While expressing pleasure, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit took his social media and noted, “Former CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, received the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC), the community’s highest honour, on Sunday.” 

He was awarded at the opening ceremony of the Forty-Third Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Suriname.

Applauding Ambassador Larocque, PM Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that he has served Dominica and the region with his exceptional leadership and always makes efforts to promote economic integration and cooperation among member states of the Caribbean Community. 

PM Skerrit expressed, “On behalf of the Government and People of Dominica, I extend warm congratulations to Ambassador Larocque. He has served Dominica and the region with distinction, and we applaud him for his efforts to promote economic integration and cooperation among member states of CARICOM.” 

Suriname has hosted the 43rd regular CARICOM Heads of the Government Meetings, which was joined by various leaders of the Caribbean countries. The meeting was held for three days with a packed agenda, which included the discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts and other various emerging health issues. 

Besides this, the leaders also discussed the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, Advancing the CARICOM Agri-food systems agenda: Prioritizing Regional Food and Nutrition Security and the issue of Climate Change.

Various leaders such as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda- Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Barbados- Mia Amor Mottley, President of Guyana- Dr Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister of Grenada- Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, joined CARICOM Heads of the government meetings.Â
