Dominica: A few weeks ago, two men were arrested by the Commonwealth of Dominica Police for risking the security of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and the Chinese embassy by flying drones overhead the premises. The drone was seized by police officials.

The disturbance took place on March 4, 2021, when two YouTubers named Lynworth Mitchell and Jawanza Stuart chose to fly a drone in Morne Daniel, the alike area where the embassy of the People’s Republic of China & PM Roosevelt Skerrit’s residence is located.

The subject is now before the court in Dominica as the accused were freed on bail after two days in police custody. The reason back flying these drones remains anonymous, and the police are investigating these two individuals’ intentions.

Lynworth Mitchell is a famous Dominican Youtuber who operates a Mystellics Vlogs channel. His relations with the United Workers Party, the main opposition of Dominica, can be seen from the content he created in the time of the general election in 2019. Mystellics Vlogs- mainly a travel-based channel-widely uploaded videos promoting the United Workers Party during the elections.

However, it is not clear if his acts of flying the drone over the premises of PM Skerrit and the Chinese Embassy were encouraged by his political convictions.

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit condemned the acts & stated that the government is now working on creating laws to restrict drone flying in the country. He pointed to this as a “dangerous practice.

He stated that drones could be carrying poisons; he said that drones are used as bombs in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit also took it on the opposition’s leader & took a dig at him for supporting people who threaten the security of the state. He stated that any person who aspires to be a leader of a country lacks essential leadership. He said that Lennox Linton continues to show a “lack of leadership,” and it is miserable.

Furthermore, he stated that rule of law is the rule of law regardless of who the person supports politically.PM Skerrit noted that he would never encourage the actions of his supporter in wrongdoings.

Prime Minister stated that such things have never happened before; he said opposition leaders have engaged themselves in demonstrations on national issues but not to ask for release for people who violated the law.

“This is a democracy; we regard the rule of law; under our system, a person is innocent until proven guilty, and you are admitted for due process and defend yourself.” PM Roosevelt Skerrit.

Dominica currently does not have strict laws forbidding any drone flying; however, flying a drone over the prime minister’s residence or an international consulate is banned worldwide.
