UNC's MP - Dr Roodal Moonilal, has asked the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago- Dr Keith Rowley be the first person to take the recently approved Sinopharm Beijing COVID-19 vaccine.

Trinidad and Tobago: UNC’s MP – Dr Roodal Moonilal, has asked the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago– Dr Keith Rowley be the first person to take the recently approved Sinopharm Beijing COVID-19 vaccine.

In a press release, MP Moonilal queried to question the criticism he received from the health minister – Terrance Deyalsingh, after he raised issues with the COVID-19 vaccine, which is approved by the World Health Organisation -WHO, last week.

The MP cited, “The people who launched the nimblest attack on me for raising concerns, already in the global press, about the – WHO-approved Sinopharm vaccine, they should themselves take it first to demonstrate, by action, ultimate confidence in its efficacy.”

Moonilal further expressed his point that he was not against the vaccination as he was one of among the Parliamentarians who were vaccinated with the first batch of Oxford- AstraZeneca vaccines that T&T received from the – WHO’s -COVAX facility arrangement and through a donation from the Indian government.

Moonilal stated that his concerns were based on the international reports on the vaccine, which he attached with his release. He stated, “I noticed that Minister Deyalsingh did not attack the international press. There is a global disquiet, to say the least, about the lack of transparency over the clinical trial data emanating from China related to this vaccine. I was doing my job as an MP in raising critical, uncomfortable, and disturbing questions.”

He further added to his statement that “This miserable failure to secure T&T’s borders deserves an inquiry and court marshal, Rowley and Stuart Young should walk the plank for this calamity.”

The minister questioned the government and cited, “Yet no one in authority is willing to take the vaccine. I ask why? PM Keith Rowley must take this vaccine in a full media and public appearance and show his confidence at the highest level of leadership.”

In a press release- Minister Deyalsingh strongly denounced Moonilal’s statements, which he said were totally baseless and not grounded in science or facts.”
