Trinidad and Tobago: Prime Minister Keith Rowley spent the day on Capitol Hill, participating in a series of meetings with members of the US Congress on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. 

Discussions focused on advancing the interests of the people of Trinidad and Tobago and on the continued strengthening of the relationship with the US. Current matters of foreign policy, national security, and the energy industry were among the issues on the agenda.

The Prime Minister first met with the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS 2nd District).

He then met with William F. Hagerty, IV (R-TN), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on State Department and USAID Management, International Operations, and Bilateral International Development.

Dr Rowley also met with Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), a Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

On the last day, the Prime Minister of Trinidad ad Tobago met with Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and Timothy M. Kaine (D-VA), Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights and Global Women’s Issues.

Prime Minister Rowley will return to Capitol Hill tomorrow, where he is expected to meet with US lawmakers.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Prime Minister Keith Rowley met with former US Senator Chris Dodd in Washington, DC, for further discussions following their meeting in Barbados last week.

Dodd is the Special Advisor appointed by US President Joseph Biden for the Summit of the Americas, which will be held in Los Angeles in June.

Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the US Department of State, Barbara Feinstein, was also at the meeting.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon Stuart Young and Ambassador to the US and Mexico, Anthony Phillips-Spencer, Brigadier General, accompanied the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley departed for Washington, DC, on Sunday, April 24, 2022, where he engaged in a number of meetings aimed at progressing the interests of Trinidad and Tobago.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young, will accompany the Prime Minister.

Minister of Finance Colm Imbert acted as Prime Minister until Dr Rowley’s return.
