PM Rowley hold meet with BHP, discusses future plans

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago - Dr Keith Rowley, held a meet with the high-level team of BHP Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday 22 June 2021.

Trinidad and Tobago: The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago – Dr Keith Rowley, held a meet with the high-level team of BHP Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday 22 June 2021.

This meeting led to the discussion on the plans of BHP for future development and the potential of smaller associated oil and gas plays.

PM Rowley also received an update on the projects of the BHP in Trinidad and Tobago including, Ruby/ Delaware and the deepwater blocks in the North and South of East Coast Trinidad and Tobago.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago also used the opportunity to thank Vincent Pereira, who is the outgoing Country Manager of BHP Trinidad and Tobago, for his dedication, duty and service he presented at the national level and at BHP also.

PM Rowley also welcomed the new Country Manager of BHP Trinidad and Tobago – Michael Stone.

BHP and the government of T&T highlighted the significance of their relationship and reaffirmed their pledge to continue working together for the benefit of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago island.

The meeting was also attended by the other government officials such as – Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon Stuart Young and Corporate Affairs Manager, BHP, Dr Carla Noel-Mendez.

BHP is a Mining company in the Port of Spain, on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. Last month the mining company announced the first oil production from the Ruby Project offshore of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ruby development project is a joint investment between BHP (operator- 68.46 per cent interest) and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited – (31.54 per cent interest).

Earlier the government of Trinidad and Tobago has stated that they would
encourage further development over the next 12 months with licensing rounds for deepwater, shallow-water and onshore acreage.
