PM Roosevelt Skerrit signs agreement with African Export-Import Bank during ACTIF 2022

First-ever forum launched by the government of Barbados is taking place from September 1 to 3, 2022, at Bridgetown under the theme 'One People. One Destiny. Uniting and Reimagining Our Future.'

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, signed an agreement with the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexibank) on Thursday, September 2, 2022. The agreement was signed at the Afri-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF 2022).

First-ever forum launched by the government of Barbados is taking place from September 1 to 3, 2022, at Bridgetown under the theme ‘One People. One Destiny. Uniting and Reimagining Our Future.’

The agreement was mainly focused on the development of trade relations between the Caribbean and Africa. Various other Caribbean countries also signed the agreement with Dominica. 

With the agreement, both regions will assist each other in the establishment of the new commercial. It will also help in strengthening the various diplomatic and strategic ties. The agreement will facilitate the establishment of numerous bilateral deals and ultimately ease the process of trading between two regions. 

Further, it also talked about the inter-regional trade and investment opportunities for the participating countries as the doors to both regions will be open. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit joined other Caribbean leaders in the forum held in Barbados, where various deals and projects were discussed. 

Through his social media, he noted, “This morning, I participated in the opening ceremony of the inaugural Afri-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2022), taking place from September 1 – 3, 2022, in Bridgetown, Barbados.”

The forum aims to strengthen relations among private sector entities in Africa and the Caribbean to advance trade and investment.

Various other Caribbean leaders also participated in the signing ceremony. The names of the dignitaries were Prime Minister of Barbados- Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda– Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre. 

Besides, the countries such as St. Vincent and the Grenadines Suriname were also presented at the forum. 

The government of Barbados hosted the forum in collaboration with the African Union Commission, the AfCFTA Secretariat, the Africa Business Council, the CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Export Development Agency.
