PM Roosevelt Skerrit mourn sudden demise of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa

While mourning the demise of the President of UAE, Prime Minister Skerrit noted, "I am saddened to learn of the passing of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)."

Roseau, Dominica: On the sudden demise of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit mourned and expressed condolences to his family and the people of the middle eastern nation. 

While mourning the demise of the President of UAE, Prime Minister Skerrit noted, “I am saddened to learn of the passing of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

He further applauded his leadership and vision through which he worked for the upliftment of the nation. PM Skerrit stated,” he was a transformational and visionary leader who guided his people and country to growth and prosperity; and a true friend of Dominica.”

PM Skerrit extended tribute to him and his work and added, “I express heartfelt condolences to the royal family and to the people of the UAE. May his soul rest in peace.”

Sheikh Khalifa passed away on Friday, May 13. He has been President of the UAE since 2004.

President of UAE served his title since November 3, 2024, and he remained the ruler of Abu Dhabi. Further, the authorities, especially the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, have declared official national mourning for the next 40 days after the day of the death of the President. The mourning period will be started on Friday, May 13, 2022. 

In order to pay tribute to the President, flags will fly at half-mast during this time period. 

The President has a great hand in the remarkable growth of the United Arab Emirates and is stated as an “inspiring success story” to be shared with the world during the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2021. The leader further stated that firm foundations were in place to enable the UAE to flourish for decades to come and cement its position on the world stage.

Sheikh Khalifa also served as the chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council since the late 1980s. While he was in power, he was known as one of the wealthiest monarchs in the world.
