Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has a meeting with the independent candidates and the members of Team Unity Dominica who contested the snap general elections on December 6, 2022. He congratulated them for their decision to contest the polls. 

PM Skerrit and the candidates who contested the elections met on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the office of the prime minister. The meeting featured a cordial discussion on various constructive matters, especially the political structure of the country and the electoral reform. 

While sharing the update about the meeting, PM Roosevelt Skerrit took to social media and cited, “On Friday, I had a most constructive discussion with the independent candidates and the members of Team Unity Dominica who contested the December 6 general elections.” 

He also shared glimpses of the meeting in which it could be seen that they had indulged in constructive discussion on various matters of concern. 

PM Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that their discussion was mainly focused on the developmental ways for their respective constituencies and forming the strategies to uplift the different sectors. He noted, “They outlined pressing areas of concern in their respective constituencies and offered workable solutions.” 

While extending full support to the candidates, PM Skerrit said that he wanted to have more interactive interactions like them with them to work for the development of Dominica. 

He continued, “I look forward to similar engagements with more of you as we work together, hand in hand, for the development of our country.” 

Earlier on Friday morning, PM Skerrit had a meeting with the elected representative for the Marigot Constituency, Anthony Charles. They held cordial discussions about his development plans for Marigot, where PM Skerrit assured Charles of the Government’s support.

December 6 general elections witnessed the 45 electorates who nominated themselves to contest the polls. Prime Minister Skerrit stressed that the country had witnessed the largest number of nominations in 2022 over the last decade. 

Dominica Labour Party won the elections with 19 out of 21 seats, and the remaining two were secured by two independent candidates. One of them was Anthony Charles from the Marigot constituency, and another was Jesma Paul from the Salisbury constituency.
