Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday during his official visit. The meeting featured discussions on several matters of strengthening cooperation and bilateral ties between the two nations.

The meeting also focused on the areas of exchanges and collaborations between Dominica and China which could help deepen the friendship between these countries. Both leaders have commended the long-standing relationship and their commitment to maintaining the bilateral ties for 20 years.

PM Skerrit added,” We discussed our long-standing relationship and pledged commitment to deepening the friendship between our two countries through vigorous exchanges and further cooperation in various fields.”

Besides this, President Jinping also expressed high appreciation for Prime Minister Skerrit’s unwavering commitment to Dominica-China friendship. According to President Jinping, the relations between the two countries are a fine example of South-South cooperation.

The meeting also referred to Dominica “as a trustworthy good friend and good partner of China in the Caribbean.” It stressed productive cooperation in several sectors such as tourism, investment, business, and trade so that the relations could flourish in the upcoming occasion and times.


The meeting also stressed that China will work with Dominica to draw strength from friendship and develop win-win cooperation and fruitful relations to the greater benefit of both nations.

In addition to that, Prime Minister Skerrit also had a meeting with Premier Li Qiang and the Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, Zhao Leji on Monday.

The leaders have talked about the areas of collaboration and ways of enhancing multilateralism between the two nations. PM Skerrit signed bilateral cooperation documents with Premier Qiang who hosted a welcome ceremony for the delegation of Dominica.

On Monday, PM Skerrit also laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes on the Tian’anmen Square in Beijing, China. It is one of the event of his official visit to China which is scheduled to run from March 23 to 29, 2024.

Since Saturday, PM Skerrit participated in a series of events including the talks with the prominent business firms operating in Beijing. He also explored the ways of growing business and promoting local products.

He also toured the facilities of Huawei and observed the working of the world’s leading providers of information and communication technology.

The meetings and talks are aimed to mark the 20 years of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between Dominica and China. As per Prime Minister Skerrit, the visit will enhance their collaboration with China and deepen the ways of cooperating on a series of matters.
