Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with the elected representative for the Marigot Constituency, Anthony Charles, on Friday. Their meeting featured a discussion on the development plans for the constituency. 

PM Skerrit, through his social media, cited, “I met with the elected representative for the Marigot Constituency, Anthony Charles, on Friday morning.” 

Prime Minister also extended a full hand of support to a parliamentary representative and stated that his plans and actions will be fully acknowledged by the Government of Dominica. 

He expressed best wishes to Anthony Charles for his representation of the people of Marigot in the parliament. “We held cordial discussions about his development plans for Marigot, and I assured Charles of the Government’s support, “said the prime minister. 

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his wish to hold engagement and interactive talks with the independent candidates who contested the December 6 general elections and stated that they had shown that democracy is alive and well in the Commonwealth of Dominica. 

He noted, “I intend to engage further with the independent candidates who contested the December 6 general elections as we chart the way forward for Dominica.”

Dominica Labour Party has emerged victorious in the snap general elections after winning 19 out of 21 seats. The remaining seats were secured by the two independent candidates from Marigot and Salisbury constituencies. Anthony Charles won the Marigot constituency and defeated DLP’s George Reverie.  

On the other hand, the Salisbury constituency was won by Independent Candidate Jesma Paul Lynsia Frank of DLP lost, receiving 463 votes. 

Dr Roosevelt Skerrit was sworn in as Prime Minister of Dominica for the sixth consecutive term by President Charles Savarin on Wednesday. 

During the swearing-in ceremony, PM Skerrit congratulated Team Unity Dominica and Independent candidates for their decisions to contest the snap general elections. He also talked about the implementation of electoral reform in the country.
