Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, extended condolences to the family of national athlete Bram Sanderson, who passed this morning following a traffic accident in Antigua.

He took to Facebook and paid tribute to the sports star and said that this was a tough time for the entire nation. PM Skerrit said, “The Government of Dominica expresses sincere condolences to the family of national athlete Bram Sanderson, who passed this morning following a traffic accident in Antigua.” 

Sanderson represented Dominica as a cyclist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games; and in the sport of Kayaking. He was an all-around athlete who excelled in track and field and basketball.

He also extended sympathies to the sporting fraternity. He said, “We extend sympathies to the sporting fraternity and all who mourn his passing.” 

PM Roosevelt Skerrit also wished for the speedy recovery of the second victim in the accident. 

“We also wish a speedy recovery to the second accident victim, a Dominican, who, according to media reports, remains in critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center in Antigua, “said the prime minister. 

The sporting fraternity has been thrown into shock by the sudden passing of national athlete Bram Sanderson in the early hours of this morning.

Sanderson, who represented Dominica in a number of sporting disciplines, died after being involved in a traffic accident in Antigua at 3:05 am Sunday morning at the intersection of Sir Sydney Walling Highway and American Road.

He was just 30 years old. Sanderson was riding a motorcycle when it collided with a pickup van at an intersection.

The impact left him with multiple injuries, and he died while being transported to the hospital.

Bram Sanderson can be described as a multi-talented athlete. He was the first Dominican to participate in cycling at the commonwealth games when he represented Dominica at the 2018 Games in Australia.

He was also the first Dominican to participate on the global stage in the sport of Kayak. Bram Sanderson was also a well rounded track and field athlete and basketballer.
