Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced the closure of schools tomorrow on October 20, 2023 in concern of Tropical Storm Tammy.

PM Skerrit in his announcement highlighted the work as well. He quoted, “However, work will proceed as normal.”

Weather updates across Dominica have alarmed the population of the island. The threats to this can not be neglected. 

In this concern, The prime minister released a statement on safety. 

“Please make all necessary preparations to protect lives and property,” said the PM.

 The government of Dominica is monitoring Tropical Storm Tammy and will release the updates timely.

On October 19,2023, the center of the storm was at 465 Miles ESE of Dominica. As per the reports, it will move towards the Leeward Islands in the coming two days( Friday and Saturday).

Considerably, the storm is projected to be closer to hurricane intensity by Saturday.

Melissa Skerrit, Minister of Housing and Urban Development also released an update on this. She informed the citizens by sharing the post on her social media, where along with the storm progress, a photo was shared as well.

The photo consisted of information for people to stay safe and protected. It was categorized into three parameters; Prepare, Plan and Be Safe. She added, citizens are to check the supplies elderly. They should listen or read the news before making any plan and should avoid all the risks.

Importantly, should keep an eye on instructions.

Hurricane Tips

As the conditions are worsening in the country, tips for preparedness has been issued by the government of Dominica.

Tips are all about the safety of the nation’s population as these state all the preparedness of being safe, protected and secure at their place. 

The tips include the evacuation is to be planned wisely after considering all the consequences of the weather conditions.

It states that large trees can be cut to safeguard the outdoor and indoor equipment. The shutters are to be installed on doors and windows. The hangings or any material placed outside the home is to be kept inside. 

The vehicles are to be relocated at higher grounds from the places they are usually placed. Park at appropriate places by keeping in mind the threats of parking under tree or power lines.

All the required is to be done on a prior basis like the charging of cell phones, filling of fuel in vehicles.

Most importantly, the documents and other valuable things like jewelry, insurance are to be kept safe to save it from the damage.

All such tips will help in the protection of the citizens of India.
