Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit held an interactive discussion with the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, during his official visit to the inaugural Agri-Investment Forum and Expo being held in Georgetown, Guyana, from May 19-21.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit held an interactive discussion with the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, during his official visit to the inaugural Agri-Investment Forum and Expo being held in Georgetown, Guyana, from May 19-21.

On May 19, 2022, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport for the inaugural Agri- Investment Forum and Expo being held in Georgetown, Guyana, from May 19-21.

The forum has explored issues relating to an investment in agriculture and food production.

President of Guyana Dr Irfaan Ali, in honour of the inaugural Agri-Investment Forum and Expo, hosted a welcome reception at Castellani House on Thursday evening.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is heading Dominica’s delegation which includes Minister for Trade Ian Douglas, Minister for Agriculture Fidel Grant and local farmers Deles Warrington and Hillary Shillingford.

The three-day Agri-Investment Forum and Expo started yesterday and is expected to conclude tomorrow.

Further, Prime Minister Skerrit also addressed the forum and called for the trade between the Caribbean countries.

He said, “I think we need to as part of the process of advancing this very lofty and welcome initiative led by the President of Guyana, of which I am in total and absolute supporter.”

Prime Minister Skerrit asserted that everyone needs to itemise the actions they need to take because if they are to allow the people, ordinary folks, to feel that they are part of the integration of farmers and fisherfolks, they must be able to benefit from that process.

“We are scared of COVID-19, and we should be really scared of diabetes and hypertension, and then we have an incidence of obesity in the region caused by what we eat, “underlined PM Skerrit.

PM Skerrit further asserted that this initiative is not only about the well-being and welfare of every citizen in the Caribbean region. I will attend the Agri-Investment Forum & Expo in Georgetown, Guyana from May 19-21.

The forum is hosted by the Government of Guyana and the CARICOM Secretariat and will be held under the theme “Investing in Vision 25 by 2025.”

Participants will address issues linked to investment in agriculture and food production, including cross-border investment, climate smart agriculture and related infrastructural development.

The meeting is timely for Dominica as we intensify efforts locally to build stronger value chain relationships, promote food security and achieve sustainable growth in the agriculture sector.
