PM Pierre meets President of CDB in St Lucia, discusses economic diversification

The meeting has mostly centred on the enhancement of the infrastructure of the country with possible financial assistance. The delegations in the meeting have also touched on the developmental agendas and strategies for the small island nations.

Castries, St Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre held a meeting with the President of the Caribbean Development Bank Dr Gene Leon, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in St Lucia. The discussion has been held on various matters, such as the diversification of the economic and other developmental agendas. 

The meeting has mostly centred on the enhancement of the infrastructure of the country with possible financial assistance. The delegations in the meeting have also touched on the developmental agendas and strategies for the small island nations. 

Outlining the featured topic of the discussion, the Prime Minister of St Lucia, Philip J Pierre noted, “Economic diversification and access to affordable development financing were a few of the topics discussed today at my meeting with the President of the Caribbean Development Bank, Dr Gene Leon.”

Prime Minister Pierre also highlighted that he is looking for further discussions at the 54th Board of Governors meeting. 

He stated, “I look forward to more extensive discussions at the 54th Board of Governors meeting where member states will convene to deliberate on issues and tailor projects that will transform the lives of our people.”

Further, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre had a working session with the Secretary-General for CARICOM, H.E. Dr. Carla Barnett, and her team in St Lucia. 

Prime Minister Pierre emphasized that their discussion has featured various matters such as the developmental agendas of the small island nations, Climate Financing, and Sustainable Development

“Our discussions focused on Sustainable Development, Climate Adaptation, and Climate Financing, some major issues which confront Small Island Developing States like Saint Lucia and the rest of CARICOM”, underlined PM Pierre. 

He said that as lead head for Sustainable Development in the quasi-Cabinet of CARICOM, he would continue to push our collective agenda.

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre also observed Holy Week and extended wishes to all the citizens of the Caribbean country. 

PM Pierre said, “As we observe Holy Week, let us remember the sacrifice that was made on our behalf. In your own way, be sure to take some time to appreciate the goodness and wonder of God in your life.”
