PM Pierre, Ernest Hilaire welcome team Saint Lucia from 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games

In order to honour the participants for their remarkable performance in the Commonwealth Games, the members of the House Assembly of Saint Lucia held a welcome ceremony for the athletes.

Castries, Saint Lucia: As Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have been concluded, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister- Ernest Hilaire and other officials welcomed back Team Saint Lucia from the games. 

In order to honour the participants for their remarkable performance in the Commonwealth Games, the members of the House Assembly of Saint Lucia held a welcome ceremony for the athletes. 

The members of the House of Assembly paid tribute to the returning Commonwealth Games team from Saint Lucia. Silver medalist Julien Alfred was specially mentioned by Speaker of the House Claudius Francis, who said she would be rewarded for her exemplary performance at the recently concluded athletic meet.

Ernest Hilaire also penned down appreciation notes for the players on his social media handle. He noted, “Today, we welcomed back Team Saint Lucia from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. They all represented Saint Lucia with great pride and left it all out there on the field.” 

He felt proud to welcome the athletes in the country. While congratulating Julien Alfred, Ernest Hilaire stated, “I also want to say a special congratulations to Julien Alfred who got a Silver medal in the Women’s 100M Finals. We are very proud of each and every one of you.”

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia also paid tribute to star sprinter JULIEN ALFRED on Wednesday, following her remarkable achievements at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England.

The Ministry’s efforts were enhanced through contributions made by corporate partners DIGICEL, CHREIKI Group of Companies, St. James’s Club Morgan Bay, Anthony Jewellers and Ojas Spa.

On hand to congratulate her were Kenson Casimir, Minister for Youth Development and Sports; Caroline Eugene, Permanent Secretary; Craig Gustave, Sports Officer, and coach Cuthbert “Twatinay” Modeste.

In the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Saint Lucia performed incredibly well and secured the silver medal.
